A Filipino Janitor in Canada Won $7 Million in Lotto

Vito Halasan, 58 years old, a Filipino janitor working and living in Surrey, British Columbia in Canada recently won the $ 7 million jackpot prize of 6/49 Lotto which is a nationwide lottery game drawn every Wednesdays and Saturdays. According to BCLC press release, all the 6 number combination matched Halasan’s ticket last April 27, 2019 draw.

“I remember scanning my ticket and seeing all these numbers,” Halasan stated “I have a really blurry vision so I had to hold the ticket right up to my face. I couldn’t believe it,” he added.


Halasan excitedly called his daughter after realizing that he won. “He sat me down at the table. And then he whispered really quietly to me that he won $7 million dollars. I didn’t believe him. We had to check online several times.” his daughter said.

Halasan wants to give his family the life they had dreamed of since they moved to Canada from the Philippines in 2009. Halasan also quoted during the BCLC press release that he buys a ticket so he could dream. “I dream of being able to take care of my kids and make their future better.” he also added. He is also planning to buy a nice house for his children and his grandchildren.

Staying Simple

Halasan also said that even after winning the jackpot in the lottery he doesn’t want to quit his job as a janitor because it is a job he knows and loves doing. instead, he plans on reducing his working hours probably to figure out a way to enjoy his winnings.
