Duterte promises to resolve the never-ending traffic in EDSA before the end of the year.
The “5 Minutes” Vow
Currently, it will take at least an hour for commuters to travel from Cubao to Makati due to traffic. In his speech during a campaign rally of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan in Isabela, he said that Cubao to Makati travel will only take 5 minutes after the completion of the Build Build Build project.
“You just wait. Ayaw kong mag-ano. Things will improve. Maybe god-willing December smooth sailing na,” he said in a television interview over Sonshine Media Network.
“You don’t have to worry about traffic. Cubao and Makati is just about 5 minutes na lang.”
The Department of Public Works and Highways are currently busy with the major infrastructure which believed could do huge progress in the traffic in Metro Manila. These are the Metro Manila Skyway Stage (MMSS3) and NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Project.
Duterte is pretty much confident that the project will be successful as the government has enough fund to finish the project at the expected time. He states that the government of China gave the financial support needed for the project.
“Of course we have the money. That’s why I have the guts… I hope God will allow me to see this. I’m not trying to say remember me. As a matter of fact, when I’m gone, forget me. Doing something gives me personal satisfaction,” Duterte said.
“Mabuti nalang nagpunta ako ng China. China nagtulong,” he added.
Extreme traffic is the day to day problem that Metro Manila is facing. In fact, it is one of the negative trademarks has.
Last September, Duterte blamed the Congress for not granting him the emergency power. He said that he would leave the problem of traffic to the next president.
If the project will be successfully done before the end of the year, it will be the president’s Christmas gift to Metro Manila’s commuter. No one will ever celebrate holidays in the middle of EDSA.
