President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is eyeing for a doctor to lead Philippines Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) after the head of the government firm was asked to hand in their courtesy resignations. This is in accordance to the alleged ghost dialysis treatment scheme.
Still waiting for a reply
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said on Tuesday that President Duterte has his eyes set on Dr. Jaime Cruz. He has already sent the doctor his offer and is still waiting for a reply.
Panelo said that the president mentioned Cruz’ name the day before when he was addressing the scheme.
“May binanggit siya kahapon si Dr. Jaime Cruz. Private ‘yun [He mentioned Dr. Jaime Cruz. He’s from the private sector],” Panelo said during a Palace press briefing. “He’s waiting for the response of Jaime Cruz for the offer he made to him,”
Earlier this week, news that a certain dialysis center has been claiming pensions of their dead patients leak. Wellmed Center was named later on. Today, Panelo confirmed that the said fraudulent scheme reached over P150 million pesos, it could be P300M but he couldn’t be sure.
Following this, Panelo said that the president already asked the head of PhilHealth to give out their courtesy resignation.
“The President began the meeting by saying that he had asked the members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and its acting President to submit their courtesy resignations to allow an uninfluenced investigation of the reported irregularities,”
These resignations, if given, will be “accepted undoubtedly” according to Panelo.
After the scandal, Panelo admitted that Duterte is not making them leave because of mistrust. But because he wants a clean slate. He also mentioned that the president is waiting for NBI’s investigation to be concluded.
“They thanked the President for giving them the opportunity to serve. They appreciate the fact the resignation is based not on the fact that the President mistrusts but he wants a clean slate, he wants a full investigation,”
“Parang may binanggit pa nga siya doon na kung okay, pwede naman sila ibalik o kaya bigyan sila ng ibang position. The President is tentative kasi wala pa ‘yung report ng NBI [He mentioned that if it was okay, they can be reappointed or given another post. The President is tentative because there is no NBI report yet],” .
