Tina Palacios, an ordinary citizen from Pateros Manila, was shocked when she found out that her water bill reached as high as P42,452.16 even if she and her family still haven’t lived in their house because it is still under construction.
According to the report, the water pipes beneath Tina’s house has a leakage and she will have to pay for the said amount regardless of any reason.
The family immediately reported it to the Manila Waters. At first, there wasn’t any problem inside the house. However, later on, it was realized that there is a leakage in the pipe underneath the house and the family is accountable if they want it to be fixed.
Dittie Galang, a spokesperson from Manila Waters stated “All lines after the water meter is the responsibility of the customer.”
“The Underground leak may have been caused by some damage beneath the concrete surface.”
The Manila Waters insists that it should be paid just like how others should be responsible to pay the actual reading of the meter. “Lahat po ng ating linya pagkatapos ng metro ay responsibilidad po ng customer .Kung yung iba sinisingil natin base sa actual metro, gayundin ang para sa mga customers.” Galang said
Tina was given an option to pay half of the bill P21,626.16 first and the balance must be paid on a monthly basis for 6 months.
Nevertheless, Tina and her family still believe that they should be given consideration since it was clear that they didn’t even use the water.
” ’Yun ’yung gusto ko sanang bigyan nila ng konsiderasyon since wala namang nakatira talaga walang nakinabang sa binibill nila samin,” Tina said.
Tina and her family together with the netizens are still resentful against Manila Water.
Hopefully what they experienced now wouldn’t happen to other Filipinos who are just striving to live their own lives.
