Philippine Sports Commission William ‘Butch’ Ramirez acknowledged the sealed tripartite agreement recently involving the PSC, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), and Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHIS-GOC).
Tripartite Agreement For The Games’ Accomplishment
According to Ramirez, the agreement is a step toward the successful preparation of hosting the upcoming Games.
“Now, we can move on”, said Ramirez who is also the Chief of Mission from Team Philippines
He said that President Rodrigo Duterte has focused on the country’s preparations for hosting the biennial meet after POC had called for special elections following the resignation of its former president, Ricky Vargas.
POC President: SEA Games Is Definitely Ready
“Now that the internal issues of the POC have been settled and with all of its officials now moving in the same page, government– through the PSC and all the other agencies with stakes in the Games, can now also move forward with the preparations, ” Ramirez alleged.
The PSC chief said that the newly elected POC President and Cavite 7th district representative Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino will lead National Sports Association (NSA) for its roles and responsibilities in hosting.
“The success of the SEA Games will rest in the now very pronounced cooperation among our sports leaders. Representative Tolentino is able to galvanize the once continuing sports leaders into a cohesive group that yes, we can now say that SEA Games is definitely a go,” Ramirez added.
He said that PSC will support the technical needs of NSAs in addition to its ongoing program to boost the chances of athletes by providing funds for their training here and abroad.
SEA Games Only Four Months To Go
“Time, however, is if the essence. We’re no longer counting the days towards the SEA Games but the hours and minutes leading to them,” Ramirez said.
The SEA Games will be held from November 30 to December 11 to different venues in Central Luzon. The main venues for the Games are being built at Cark and Subic.
Last Thursday, Ramirez and Tolentino conducted meeting with the POC Board and other NSA officials to set up their respective rules in the Games.
“I saw their cooperation as a very positive sign that points to the success of the Games hosting. Representative Tolentino and the POC Board are also upbeat on the SEA Games especially now that we have a little more than four months before the first matches are played,” Ramirez said.
“The SEA Games are a go, that is for sure,” he added.
