After a few glitches and delays, Comelec finally proclaimed the “magic 12” senators who won the just concluded midterm elections. During their proclamation photo, all the winning senators did the Duterte fist bump except for Grace Poe and Nancy Binay. Is this a sign of defiance?
Proclaimed At Last
Despite the controversial delays in the counting of votes, Comelec has nonetheless finished the tally and has finally proclaimed the winners of the 12 senatorial seats up for grabs in the recent midterm elections. The “magic 12” include senators Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe, Bong Go, Pia Cayetano, Ronald Dela Rosa, Lito Lapid, Sonny Angara, Francis Tolentino, Imee Marcos, Koko Pimentel, Nancy Binay, and Bong Revilla Jr.
The incoming set of senators are all in a festive mood, as Bong Revilla can even be seen dancing the popular “budots” move that he danced during the campaign period. They also happily posed with the now famous “Duterte Fist Bump” except for the two lady senators Grace Poe, and Nancy Binay.
They Nixed The Fist Bump
As the winning senators posed on the proclamation stage, Grace Poe can be seen putting her hand in her chest as if singing the national anthem, while Nancy Binay chose to raise her hand and point upward, a sign of her party UNA or United Nationalist Allegiance.
Many wondered why they didn’t gamely pose with the Duterte fist bump. Some say that it may be because Grace Poe and Nancy Binay was not endorsed by Duterte during the campaign period, nor by the presidential daughter Sarah Duterte. Most of the winning senators were actually endorsed by either the president or his daughter.
Loyalty To The People
Grace Poe went to social media to thanks all the supporters and the people who believed in her, she also reiterated that her loyalty is only to the people. “Maraming salamat sa mahigit 22 milyong Pilipinong nagtiwala sa atin. Susuklian ko ang mandatong ibinigay ninyo ng tapat at masigasig na paglilingkod. Sa inyo lamang ang katapatan ko,” said Grace Poe.
Binay also did the same by thanking her supporters through social media. “Finished na! Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nagtiwala at nagbigay sa atin ng pagkakataon para makapaglingkod muli sa ating bansa,” Binay posted.
