Baguio City Is 2019 Batang Pinoy National Championships’ Overall Winner

At the end of the 2019 Batang Pinoy National Finals held at Puerto Princesa City Coliseum, Baguio City defended the championship after giving the golden performance for the overall medal standings.

Baguio City: back to back champion

After winning the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Finals and last year’s edition, Baguio City bagged a total of 61 gold medals, 45 silver medals, and 66 bronze medals (as shown on the last medal tally), making them the champion for this year’s edition.

Though Cebu and Laguna were occupying the topmost positions during the first day of the weeklong multi-sporting competition, they were outran by Baguio City on the last two days of the competition. Baguio dominated the top spot by winning the wushu and muay thai competitions.

Great fighters like Jether Bab-Anga, Azreal Duping, Charlwayne Bannagad, Larsstephen Cañedo, Edel Alingina, Aira Nicole Mendoza, Krisha Malecdan, Francine Jade Velasco, Maria Isabel Malijana, and Ashlene Kia Malecdan of muay thai team and Aleca Breana Dumseng, Andrei Roy Albert, Alyna Jo Lomibao, Stephanie Tilap, Verah Janea Dulay, and Hans Lubguban of wushu team bagged medals after medals helping Baguio inch its way to the top spot.

Cebu City back to 2nd place

As of the official medal tally, Cebu City Niños took the second place at 2019 Batang Pinoy National Finals.

Cebu City got 36 golds, 34 silvers, and 35 bronze medals.

Cebu City dominated triathlon and duathlon competitions where James Carlo Flores of Talisay, Cebu, won the gold medal for boy 11-12 duathlon with a time of 24:37.

Baguio City and Cebu City finished first and second, respectively, in last year’s edition which Baguio City hosted.

Batang Pinoy 2019 closing ceremony

The weeklong multi-sporting competition was organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) with the support of Milo.

The closing ceremony was held in August 31, Saturday, 2 PM at Puerto Princesa City Coliseum.

The champion LGU got a sports program package of P3 million, P2.5 million was given to the second placer, P2 million for the third placer, and P1.5 and P1 million for the fourth and fifth placers, respectively.
