Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. Its a number of forces can cause gene mutations, such as smoking, radiation, viruses, cancer-causing chemicals (carcinogens), obesity, hormones, chronic inflammation and a lack of exercise.
Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the world. But survival rates are improving for many types of cancer, thanks to improvements in cancer screening and cancer treatment.
Chemotherapy is the use of any drug to treat any disease. But to most people, the word chemotherapy means drugs used for cancer treatment. It’s often shortened to “chemo.” Surgery and radiation therapy remove, kill, or damage, cancer cells in a certain area, but chemo can work throughout the whole body.
These are some of the side effects of chemotherapy
- Fatigue, Hair loss
- Easy bruising and bleeding
- Anemia (low red blood cell counts)
- Nausea and vomiting
- Appetite changes
- Constipation, Diarrhea
- Mouth, tongue, and throat problems such as sores and pain with swallowing
Chemotherapy is a common treatment for all cancer patients. But we can’t deny that having chemotherapy is not just easy. It may take the patient’s life also, because of the side effects like infections. When having chemotherapy, our immune system is getting weak, that’s why our bodies are prone to infections caused by bacteria and viruses.
This is based on my experience of what I did to lessen the side effects of chemotherapy on my body.
What to do during your chemo days.
TO PREVENT PNEUMONIA – Try to put a bath towel in the patient’s bed and face towel in the back of the patient’s body. Sweating is the most common cause of Pneumonia, so always make the patient’s back dry. While you’re sleeping, try to lean on your side while lying in your bed to prevent sweating.
TO PREVENT DAMAGE IN YOUR KIDNEY AND LIVER – The only key to protect your liver and kidneys is WATER. Chemo drugs will pass in your liver, kidney and other organs, so you need to flush all the toxins in your body, and water therapy is the only way. What I did before in my chemo days, every time I pee, I drink two glasses of water to replenish the liquid in my body. For the whole chemo season, my creatinine and SGPT are normal.
TO LESSEN THE METALLIC TASTE BUD – After your meal, brush your teeth, then after that put iodized salt in your toothbrush and brush your tongue. It will help to lessen the metallic taste and slightly improve your appetite.
TRY TO TAKE A SHOWER DAILY – Try your best to clean yourself, to prevent harmful bacteria and viruses.
LIMIT YOUR VISITORS – Having so many visitors can make you more prone to infections because of the bacteria they bring.
TRY TO CLEAN YOUR ROOM EVERY DAY – Cleanliness is the key to prevent infection. Antibiotics are too expensive.
LAST IS PRAYER – The most important thing to do is prayers. Only God can save you in all your struggles in life. Prayers can make you think in a more positive side and can give you hope. It will give you the strength to continue fighting in all wars that you’re facing now.
Many cancer patients die not because of cancer but because of infections. Chemotherapy might be useful to kill cancers, but it can cause your death as well. So if ever one of your family was diagnosed with cancer and will undergo chemotherapy, make sure the environment of the patient is always clean and sanitized.
Always be careful and know the things you must do. Sometimes antibiotics can’t kill bacterias. That can cause serious damage to the body. Let’s start now to love our self. Be a healthy minded person before it’s too late.
